How Long does Finasteride Shedding last?

Hey everyone,

I started taking finasteride about 6 weeks ago (1mg daily) and I’ve noticed a big uptick in shedding over the past two weeks. It’s honestly kind of freaking me out. I read that shedding can happen when starting fin, but I didn’t expect it to be this noticeable. Every time I run my hands through my hair or take a shower, it feels like I’m losing more than usual.

Is this normal?? How long does the shedding typically last before it slows down or stops? I’m trying not to panic and just stick with it, but it’s hard when it feels like I’m going backwards.

Would love to hear from anyone who went through the same thing—how long did your shedding phase last and did you eventually see regrowth?

Thanks in advance!

My shedding started around month 2. Close to when yours started by the sounds of it. I'm looking into microdosing finasteride. I've been on Fin for about 6 months. My shedding is really slowing down now. It's tough to know if it's shedding or stress from the shedding at this point, but I'm seeing a lot less hair fall now. it's completely normal to shed. It means the medication is working and new hair will grow in where the lost hair shed.

I'm 6 months in and still shedding :( I hope it stops soon, it sucks. I've read it could take up to a year, but you have to stick with it. Super important to ride out the shedding phase "they say".
